The Problem

After years of stagnancy, a large utility company’s systems and processes needed updating. An improved mobile device platform would facilitate these improvements while simultaneously satisfying existing operational requirements across a broad range of functions. Propeller was brought on board to determine the mobile device execution requirements, applicable user base and cost impacts, and to develop a deployment strategy.

The Approach

From customer billing to line crew dispatching, the Propeller team helped determine business processes and assess mobile technology through a series of focus groups, pilot projects and side-by-side user testing. The project involved the creation and launch of multiple software platforms aimed at digitizing the client’s primarily paper-based processes and trained in-field users on the new technology.

Value Delivered

Devices were deployed to approximately 120 mobile field users across all areas of the company. The new devices replaced existing laptops and immediately offered users greater speed and agility while aligning previously disparate systems. Training, support and engagement strategies drove greater employee performance.
