New Data Platform Enables Global Retail Planning
Sales leadership at a global apparel company was unable to analyze, or effectively utilize, retail sales data without a prohibitively large investment of time due to disparate data collection practices, data inconsistencies, and a lack of a centralized data repository.
The client sought Propeller’s help in alleviating these issues in order to meet their business goal to enable better-informed supply chain planning with decreased analytics lag time. The team was tasked with creating a scrum team, defining project capabilities, and delivering data required to enable the implementation of a retail planning capability all within a year’s time.
To ensure a thorough understanding of the organization’s information landscape, the Propeller team first conducted a current-state analysis of the retail data environment, including data definition practices and identification of in-scope data sources. The team was then able to identify opportunities for improvement and select a suite of solutions, including central consolidation and storage of data in a new retail data foundation. The team held a series of meetings to define detailed requirements, confirm architecture buildout, and engage staff throughout the design and implementation lifecycles. These insights ensured the new platform addressed the critical needs of the business and those prioritized by key stakeholders.

By utilizing an Agile framework and consistent scrum ceremonies, the Propeller team was able to deliver the new platform on time and within budget. In addition to providing more consistent data formatting and enhanced data visibility, this implementation also fostered increased teamwork across the organization through the engagement of different data, application, and stakeholders. Team members also saw growth in their data refinement and analysis skills, and were able to more closely align their day-to-day work with leadership’s vision for the future. By consolidating and standardizing data, the new platform reduced sales analytics lag time by nearly 200%, and provided the more granular and accurate information needed for downstream supply chain activities.
